IWC has unveiled a new limited edition timepiece, the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL Toto Wolff x Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team, to coincide with the upcoming 2025 Formula One season. This exclusive watch, limited to just 100 pieces, integrates IWC's advanced SPRIN-g PROTECT® shock absorber system and showcases a design inspired by the team's signature colors of black and PETRONAS green. The shock absorber spring, made from bulk metallic glass, is coated with PETRONAS green Super-LumiNova® for enhanced visibility in the dark.
The SPRIN-g PROTECT® system, first introduced in 2021, uses a cantilever spring that protects the movement from the intense g-forces experienced in high-impact situations, common in Formula One. The spring absorbs much of the force before it can affect the movement, and its special design allows it to evenly distribute the stress.
The case of the watch is made from IWC's innovative Ceratanium®, a material that combines the lightweight and durability of titanium with the hardness of ceramic. The black dial features a textured finish and triangular black hands, with Super-LumiNova® to improve legibility. The watch runs on IWC’s 32101 automatic calibre, offering a power reserve of 120 hours. The movement, which is blackened to complement the overall design, can be seen through a sapphire case back featuring Toto Wolff’s signature. The watch comes with a green rubber strap and includes an additional black rubber strap.
