Cartier Women’s Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka

Collaborations and Design

The Pavilion is being realized in collaboration with the Japan Association for the 2025 World Expo, the Japanese Government, and key state institutions including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Gender Equality Bureau. The façade, designed by renowned architect Yuko Nagayama, uses repurposed materials from Expo 2020 Dubai, reflecting Cartier’s commitment to sustainable design.

A Space for Art, Storytelling, and Reflection

Curated by acclaimed artist Es Devlin, the Pavilion offers an immersive journey through powerful personal stories from women around the world. These narratives aim to inspire reflection on global issues such as gender equality, climate action, and social justice. Visitors can also contribute their names to become part of the collective story told within the space.

Featuring contributions from prominent figures such as filmmaker Naomi Kawase, actress and director Mélanie Laurent, and multidisciplinary artist Mariko Mori, the Pavilion bridges art and advocacy. Landscape designer Toshiya Onigo has also created a seasonal garden reflecting the natural beauty and cycles of Japan.

Themes Shaping the Future

The Pavilion centers around three main themes:

  • “ともに生き“ Living Together – explores the balance between humans and nature, emphasizing symbiosis and sustainable living.

  • “ともに輝く” Designing Together – envisions a future where diversity and inclusion drive innovation and equality.

  • “未来へ〜”  For the Future – creates space for meaningful dialogue, inspired by past achievements and future aspirations.

Cartier Women’s Initiative at Expo 2025

As part of the Expo, the Cartier Women’s Initiative, a global entrepreneurship program that has supported over 330 women from 66 countries since 2006, will also hold its annual award ceremony. The initiative empowers women-led businesses that tackle the world’s most pressing social and environmental issues.

Through design, storytelling, and collective action, the Cartier Women’s Pavilion offers a space for learning, connection, and envisioning a better tomorrow—one shaped by empowered women and united communities.
