IWC has started the F1 watch season by unveiling a new titanium Pilot Mark XX Mercedes-AMG Petronas Team watch. This time-and-date model draws inspiration from the design of the Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Edition Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, but now features a titanium case.
Throughout the years, IWC has introduced numerous AMG-themed watches, including special editions made in collaboration with Lewis Hamilton, although their partnership is coming to an end as Hamilton transitions to Ferrari. The latest release is a "team watch," intended for use by staff like engineers, designers, and mechanics, but also available to fans, much like the 2022 chronograph edition.
This year, the new Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team watch is based on the Mark XX, the latest version of the classic time-and-date design. The Mark XX has its roots in the 1940s, originally as part of the "Dirty Dozen" military watches, and later as the Mark X. IWC revived this design for civilians with the Mark XII in 1993, followed by various Mark models, including the Mark XVIII and the current Mark XX (skipping the Mark XIX).
The 40mm titanium version, presented in the signature AMG Petronas style, is sandblasted and features a sleek profile, measuring just 10.6mm in thickness. It has a screw-down crown and caseback, offering 100m water resistance, and a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, designed to withstand pressure drops. The caseback is adorned with special AMG Petronas logos.
The dial of the IW328210 model mirrors the design of the chronograph version, featuring a matte black background and blackened hands. All elements, including luminous hour markers, lume-filled hands, numerals, tracks, logos, and date markers, are highlighted in the signature Petronas green. Inside the case is IWC's in-house calibre 32111, an automatic movement with a 4Hz frequency and an impressive 120-hour power reserve (equivalent to 5 days). It also features a stop-seconds function for precise time setting.
